The first of Stena Line’s new hybrid ferries for the Belfast-Heysham route in the Irish Sea, Stena Futura, has successfully completed its trial sailings. The ferry is expected to enter service on the route during late summer.

“These vessels represent a crucial step in our broader sustainability journey. By integrating battery-powered propulsion systems and shore power systems, we are making significant progress toward our goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 30 percent by 2030, strengthening Stena Line’s position as a leader in sustainable shipping,” says Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.

When Stena Futura and its sister ship Stena Connecta are deployed, they will increase freight capacity by 40 percent on the Belfast-Heysham route between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
