Singapore’s Strategic Marine partnered with Sea Forrest Power Solutions to develop and supply the first Asian hybrid crew transfer vessel (CTV), targeted at the growing global offshore renewables sector
When fully operational, the vessel can accommodate 24 offshore service personnel and three crew members while travelling at up to 26 knots.
The parallel hybrid system boasts a reduction in main engine hours and maintenance, reduces vessel noise and vibration and, depending on the vessel’s operational profile and charging facilities, is expected to reduce the vessel’s operational carbon footprint.
Partners to this project signed a memorandum of understanding 12 May 2022 to complete and deliver the hybrid CTV, which will be designed to meet the specific requirements of Bureau Veritas Marine (Singapore).
Delivery is scheduled for Q1 2023, following which the CTV will be deployed in European waters.
The retrofittable system supplied by Sea Forrest Power (SFP) utilises Danfoss Editron motors and drivers and uses a proprietary control system designed and developed inhouse by the Sea Forrest Power team in Singapore. The system is designed with architecture that allows for future firmware upgrades for efficiency improvement.
Commenting on the partnership, Strategic Marine chief executive Chan Eng Yew said, “Working with SFP and Danfoss to develop the first hybrid CTV in southeast Asia places Strategic Marine on our first step towards our goals for marine sustainability and presents a solution to the industry where we see a growing demand for hybrid vessels. We are honoured to partner with SFP and Danfoss in reaching this milestone.”
Sea Forrest Power Solutions, an 80%-owned subsidiary of BH Global, focuses on driving the growth of marine electrification.
