The CGIL brings thousands of workers into the squares to call for an end to the war and a bit of humanity. A greater commitment from our government is requested

Genoa – In Genoa as in Livorno, Terni, Siena, Florence, Arezzo, Lucca, Pisa, Novara, Benevento. Italian workers are stopping, striking, and demonstrating against the war in Gaza, against the genocide of the Palestinian people carried out by the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu, to remain, despite everything, stubbornly human.

The national mobilization promoted by the CGIL, in Genoa, saw an 8-hour strike and a demonstration that crossed the city. The procession started from the Melis gardens in Cornigliano, opened by the banner of the Camera del Lavoro of Genoa followed by that of the FIOM with the words “Against the barbarism of imperialism for the unity of Israeli and Palestinian workers”. The long snake-like procession met with port workers and camalli (dockworkers) in front of the Ponte Etiopia gate and then with construction workers and pensioners in a procession from the Stazione Marittima, then in procession to the prefecture of Genoa to give a signal and try “to stir the consciences of those who govern us”. Once again, thousands of people in the square, like on Wednesday evening, like at the departure of the Music for Peace boats on August 30th, with food supplies for the starving population of Gaza.

“The shared line for everyone is ‘never again divided’, to call for a ceasefire, a stop to the genocide, and the opening of gates for humanitarian corridors.” This was stated by Stefano Rebora of Music for Peace. “Today is a demonstration, on the 22nd there will be another one. After that, we will always be united, without flags and only and exclusively with the flag of Palestine, but first and foremost with the flag of humanity.” From Genoa, which gave strong support to this mobilization, a signal is sent once again. “I believe Genoa played an important role – he explains – because the demonstration on the 30th was the one that gave the starting signal for all the demonstrations, for a general mobilization, and we must continue to hold the center of gravity and set an example for all the other squares.”
