On November 17, the first strong cold wave of the second half of the year affected the eastern seas of China. That night, an oil sewage recovery vessel encountered a severe peril in waters near Zhoushan, with the lives of its four crew members hanging by a thread.
The Donghai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport immediately instructed the rescue vessel “Donghai Jiu 117” to carry out the rescue mission, successfully saving all endangered personnel under恶劣 sea conditions.
Due to the continuous influence of the cold wave, the wind force in the incident area reached levels 9 to 10 yesterday, with wave heights of 5 meters. Around 18:00 that evening, the distressed vessel experienced a complete power failure due to massive water ingress in the engine room, causing the hull to drift uncontrollably and develop a portside list of approximately 15 to 20 degrees, creating a very critical situation. Upon receiving the rescue instruction, the “Donghai Jiu 117” vessel, which was performing emergency standby duties in the Xiazhimen sea area, immediately proceeded to the rescue.
At 20:16, the “Donghai Jiu 117” arrived at the scene and found the distressed vessel rolling violently in the waves, making it difficult to approach. The rescue crew quickly assessed the situation and decided to use the starboard rescue boat for a forced docking. However, due to the heavy wind and waves, multiple attempts by the rescue boat to approach were unsuccessful. At the critical moment, the rescue captain made a decisive decision, directing the rescue boat to switch to the port side of the distressed vessel to find a breakthrough.
After repeated attempts, the rescue boat operator seized a brief gap between two swells and quickly accelerated to cut in. At 20:31, the rescue boat successfully made contact with the port side of the distressed vessel, and the rescue crew promptly assisted the four endangered crew members in boarding the boat. By 20:36, all rescued personnel had been safely transferred to the “Donghai Jiu 117” vessel, with the entire rescue process taking only 20 minutes.
Currently, the four endangered individuals have been handed over to the relevant departments for proper安置. The “Donghai Jiu 117” vessel has returned to its designated waters to continue its emergency standby duties.
