Svitzer adds US$15M tractor tugs to Bahrain fleet

One of the world’s largest tugboat owners has purchasedtwotractor tugs for a total US$30Mto enhance operations at a major container terminal in the Arabian Gulf

Danish owner Svitzer has taken delivery of two25-m azimuth tractor tugs from Sanmar Shipyards to grow its fleetoperating in Bahrain, supporting ships calling at APM Terminals.

These were initially built inTurkey as Delicay XVI and Delicay XVII and then renamed Svitzer Manama and Svitzer Awal by their new owner. Built for handling and towing container ships in harbours such as Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) which is operated by APM, they also have a FiFi1 off-ship fire-fighting system for emergency support.

“With these new additions, we enhance our capability to manage larger vessels and parallel movements at KBSP,” said Svitzer manager, Bahrain, Ahmad Hamdy.
