The port of Tarragona reinforces its strategic role as the main gateway for fresh tropical fruit in the Iberian Peninsula and in southern Europe at Fruit Attraction. The fair, which is the main event of the state’s fruit and vegetable sector, has confirmed the role of the Tarragona enclave as a trusted partner for this sector. Participation in Fruit Attraction has also confirmed the growing interest in Tarragona as a benchmark logistics node for tropical fruit logistics. In this sense, the new infrastructures it is developing, such as the Guadalajara – Marchamalo terminal, the multipurpose terminal of the Muelle de Andalucía and the La Boella intermodal terminal, open up new business opportunities that will consolidate Port Tarragona’s leadership in cold logistics.

The Port Tarragona delegation at Fruit Attraction gives a positive assessment of the fair, where meetings have been held with members from across the entire value chain. It is worth noting that participation in this event has made it possible to showcase the potential of Fruport, the specialized refrigerated fruit terminal of the Tarragona port. Fruport has modern and efficient facilities that guarantee the continuity of the cold chain and, in turn, optimize traffic times. Furthermore, it has an immediate connection with the main road and rail routes, which allows for expediting the exit of products from the port.

Likewise, participation in Fruit Attraction has made it possible to confirm the growing interest of operators in this sector in the opportunities opened by the new infrastructures and future strategic projects that Port Tarragona is promoting. In this sense, the multipurpose terminal of the Muelle de Andalucía, which will soon be put out to tender, will not only mean a qualitative leap in the port’s operational capacity and traffic diversification, but will also increase the competitiveness of containerized fruit traffic, providing greater efficiency and flexibility to sector operators.

On the other hand, the La Boella intermodal terminal and the PortTarragona Guadalajara-Marchamalo will multiply connections with the center of the peninsula and facilitate faster and more sustainable access to the main consumption hubs in the state. Furthermore, the arrival of the international gauge, scheduled for 2026, will allow for the direct and efficient circulation of goods to Europe via the Mediterranean Corridor. This scenario will consolidate Port Tarragona’s leadership in cold logistics and, in turn, opens the door to making the port a benchmark hub for a product as sensitive as fresh fruit.
