Offshore contracting giant TechnipFMC has been awarded an iEPCI contract for the Heidrun extension project in the Norwegian North Sea by Equinor.

The award of the contract follows an integrated front-end engineering and design by TechnipFMC.

The project will enhance the current infrastructure and extend the production lifecycle for the Heidrun platform.

The financial details were not revealed, but a significant contract such as this one is typically in the region of $75m to $250m. This award was included in inbound orders in the second quarter of 2025.

The Heidrun field is situated 175 km off the coast of Norway, in 350 m of water. The field development includes the world’s largest floating concrete tension-leg platform. It started producing oil and gas in 1995.

The field has already delivered oil volumes far beyond initial expectations for the field’s total productive life. According to its 1991 development plan, total production was estimated at slightly more than 750m barrels. Equinor is now looking to increase its reserves from the current 1.260bn barrels to 1.890bn barrels of oil and gas.
