Tele2 has become the first Swedish operator to offer satellite-based IoT connectivity, ensuring devices stay online even beyond mobile coverage. In partnership with Skylo Technologies, the new service bridges the gap between land and sky for industries that need uninterrupted communication.
Tele2 is stepping into a new era of connectivity with the launch of its Global Satellite IoT Connectivity service. The move makes it the first Swedish telecom operator to offer a commercial direct-to-device satellite IoT solution, developed in partnership with Skylo Technologies.
The service allows IoT devices to remain connected even in the most remote areas, where traditional mobile signals fail to reach. By integrating Skylo’s 3GPP-compliant Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technology, Tele2 IoT customers can now rely on uninterrupted data transmission across land, sea, and air. Devices can automatically switch between terrestrial and satellite networks without needing any additional hardware.
“At Tele2 IoT, we believe connectivity should work everywhere,” said Stefan Trampus, Executive Vice President for B2B at Tele2. “By partnering with Skylo, we are removing the final coverage gaps and ensuring our customers’ devices stay online – whether at sea, in rural terrain, or other remote locations. This launch is an important step in our ambition to deliver reliable, simple, and global IoT connectivity.”
The collaboration brings tangible benefits to sectors such as agriculture, logistics, energy, infrastructure, and maritime. Businesses that depend on constant data flow can now minimize downtime and gain better operational insights, even when working in remote or offshore environments.
Simon Glassman, Senior Manager for EMEA Business Development at Skylo Technologies, said the partnership connects Tele2 customers to “the world’s largest commercially available satellite network.” He added, “We’re excited about supporting Tele2 and their customers as they look to leverage NTN to bring about new business models and insights for new use cases.”
With this launch, Tele2 is a leading force in global IoT solutions. By bridging terrestrial and satellite networks, the company is taking a practical step toward making connectivity truly borderless, an advancement that promises to reshape how industries communicate across the world’s most challenging locations.
