Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) established a new operational milestone with the inaugural call of a container ship linked to Evergreen, which became the first of the Taiwanese shipping company’s F-Class to arrive at the Port of Valparaíso in regular service.
“We received the Ever Feat, the first Evergreen F-Class vessel to arrive on our coast within the WSA service. With a capacity of 11,880 TEU, this call marks a milestone for Valparaíso and the beginning of the entry of larger vessels into the service, strengthening the logistics connection and foreign trade,” the concessionaire reported.
“We continue to consolidate ourselves as a partner to be trusted for our clients, thanks to the commitment and professionalism of our team, which day by day makes it possible for us to continue connecting Chile with the world,” it added.
The Evergreen container ships that regularly arrive at the Port of Valparaíso, specifically since January 2024 at Terminal No. 1 operated by TPS, correspond to L-Class units, which have a capacity to move between 9,466 to 9,532 TEU, all with a length of 334 meters and a beam of 45.8 meters.
Meanwhile, the F-Class vessels belong to a series of 20 container ships ordered by Evergreen in 2020 and which was completed in 2022. The construction order aimed to reinforce the shipping company’s presence in the transpacific trade.
The vessels were launched from the facilities of Samsung Heavy Industries (eight units of 12,118 TEU) and Imabari Shipbuilding Shipyard (12 ships of 11,888 TEU). Of these, seven joined the Taiwanese company’s fleet in 2020, 11 did so in 2021, and the remaining two in 2022.
The first container ship to be delivered was the Ever Faith and the last was the Ever Full, while the Ever Feat is the fourteenth ship of the order. The others are the Ever Focus, Ever Front, Ever Forward, Ever Fortune, Ever Far, Ever Forever, Ever Fait, Ever Fast, Ever Frank, Ever Fame, Ever Fair, Ever Future, Ever Fine, Ever Fore, Ever Fashion, Ever Fond and Ever Favor.
Despite having differences in container transport capacity, all vessels have a length of 333.96 meters and a beam of 48.4 meters. In addition, they are equipped with an open-loop sulfur oxide (SOx) scrubber system, which uses seawater to neutralize and reduce SOx from exhaust gases.
The ships were designed for the reduction of CO2 emissions, which allows them to comply with the strictest requirement of Phase III of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
It is worth mentioning that there are records of the Ever Fond arriving in Valparaíso in September 2023, but it did not take place within a regular service, as at that time the service was provided in San Antonio.
Meanwhile, the Ever Front will be the second F-Class vessel to operate at TPS, which is estimated to occur on December 15 of this year.
As a situation to remember, the Ever Feat was the ship that arrived at the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay, with collapsed container stacks and damaged units.
