Recently, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Nansha) Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center successfully mediated a labor remuneration dispute involving multiple vessels and a total amount exceeding 1.5 million yuan. The center’s efficient, fair, and professional service won praise from the seafarers, highlighting the important role of the “Aquatic Fengqiao” mechanism in resolving grassroots maritime labor disputes.
On August 27, the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center received a report from the captain of the vessel “Hai XXXX”. Due to an economic dispute between the shipowner and the management company, wages had not been paid for several consecutive months since April. Approximately 220,000 yuan in labor remuneration was owed to the six crew members on board, and the food supply was severely inadequate, causing living difficulties.
After receiving the request for help, the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center quickly activated a multi-department linkage mechanism, with units including maritime affairs, human resources and social security, and the subdistrict office intervening immediately. Through active communication with the shipowner, management company, and crew, the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center not only facilitated the resolution of the labor remuneration dispute for this vessel but also prompted the shipowner to resolve, in a one-off package, labor remuneration disputes involving six vessels under the original management company, with a total amount exceeding 1.5 million yuan.
On September 16, all relevant seafarers’ labor remuneration was settled in full.
“We are truly very grateful to them for helping us get our wages back so quickly!” the captain said, sending a handwritten letter of thanks on behalf of all crew members. The rapid resolution of this dispute reflects the positive actions of the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center in building harmonious labor relations and optimizing the shipping business environment.
Since its establishment, the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center has actively practiced the aquatic application of the “Fengqiao Experience”. Through cross-departmental collaboration, mediation according to the law, and humanistic care, it has successfully resolved numerous seafarer labor disputes. In the future, the Nansha Seafarers’ Rights Protection Center will continue to serve as a bridge, effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of seafarers, and play an active role in building harmonious and stable maritime labor relations.
