Reporters learned from the Organizing Committee of the 48th WorldSkills Competition that preparations for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, to be held in Shanghai this September, have entered the final sprint stage. The layout planning and technical standard alignment for 64 competition projects have been completed, including seven new projects such as Rail Vehicle Technology, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems, Smart Security Technology, Software Testing, and Digital Interactive Media Design.
The 48th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026. The WorldSkills Competition is the highest-level global vocational skills event, held every two years, representing the world’s advanced level of vocational skills development in various fields.
Yang Jiaying, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the 48th WorldSkills Competition, stated that the seven new competition items reflect the vigorous development of new industries, new technologies, and new business formats, and also represent future skill trends, opening up new career paths and employment spaces for young skilled talents.
Yang Jiaying indicated that the WorldSkills Competition not only showcases the world’s top skill levels and deepens international skill exchange and cooperation but also promotes the contemporary trend of achieving success through skills.
Yang Jiaying said that it is expected that over 5,500 registered personnel from 73 countries and regions will participate in the competition, including nearly 1,500 competitors, which is expected to set records for the number of competition projects, participants, and participating member countries and regions—achieving “three mosts.” Among them, Chinese competitors will participate in all 64 events.
Currently, preparations for the competition have entered the final sprint stage. Yang Jiaying introduced that Shanghai has formulated comprehensive reception measures covering visa facilitation, arrival and departure services, and accommodation guarantees, and the volunteer recruitment process has also been initiated.
“Next, we will further refine, improve, and enhance every detail of the competition preparations, sprinting with the highest standards, strictest requirements, and most solid measures to ensure the successful hosting of a WorldSkills Competition that is innovative and widely influential,” Yang Jiaying said.
