The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands has taken a decisive step toward the transformation of the port of Maó with the presentation of two strategic projects: the future maritime station of Cos Nou and the start of the participatory process for the reorganization of the southern waterfront. Both actions are part of the ambitious ‘Port Maó, Horizon 2030’ plan, which foresees a combined public and private investment of 81 million euros by 2029. The president of the Balearic Islands, Javier Sanz, emphasized that beyond the investment, what stands out in these projects “is the participatory process framing the strategic line of port-city improvement, working with a model of an integrated port open to the city and focused on people,” he stated.

The new station will replace the current temporary facility, substantially improving comfort and operational conditions for passengers and logistics operators. Preparatory work has already been underway since May 2025, with the start of improvements to the access road to Cós Nou. This essential action, budgeted at 2.83 million euros, ensures connectivity and safe transit for heavy vehicles.

Simultaneously, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands has announced the start of the participatory process to design the reorganization of the southern waterfront of the port of Maó, in the stretch between Colàrsega and Cala Figuera. The goal of this process is to listen, gather proposals, and build consensus among the various stakeholders involved, from local residents and businesses to public institutions, professionals, and citizen groups. With these actions, the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to an inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered urban transformation. The port of Maó is thus preparing to become a space better integrated into the city, more accessible to all, and aligned with the values of social cohesion, environmental sustainability, and economic development.
