On July 11th, the methanol bunkering vessel “Hai Gang Zhi Yuan,” operated by SIPG Energy, supplied 1,000 tons of domestically produced green methanol fuel to COSCO SHIPPING’s first methanol dual-fuel-powered container ship, “COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu,” at the Shengdong Terminal of Yangshan Port.

This green methanol bunkering operation was a collaborative effort between COSCO SHIPPING Lines, China Marine Bunker (Chimbusco), and SIPG Energy. It marks another proactive exploration by Chimbusco in the field of green methanol bunkering at Shanghai Port and represents a significant step by COSCO SHIPPING Group in advancing green and low-carbon transformation in shipping while integrating the entire methanol supply chain.

The “COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu” is COSCO SHIPPING Group’s first methanol dual-fuel container ship, with a total length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a maximum container capacity of 16,136 TEUs. Equipped with an advanced dual-fuel propulsion system, the vessel can flexibly switch between methanol and conventional fuels. When powered by green methanol, it significantly reduces carbon emissions and pollutants during operation. Its deployment injects strong momentum into the green transformation of China’s shipping industry.

Chimbusco’s green methanol bunkering services at Shanghai Port provide a sustainable solution for the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry. As a leading domestic marine fuel supplier, Chimbusco actively responds to shipowners’ demand for green methanol bunkering. By closely collaborating with COSCO SHIPPING Lines, SIPG Energy, and other stakeholders, Chimbusco developed detailed supply and contingency plans in advance, adhering to methanol bunkering standards, ensuring the smooth execution of this operation. This success has facilitated COSCO SHIPPING Group’s dual-fuel vessels in adopting green methanol bunkering at Shanghai Port.

The regular operation of SIPG Energy’s methanol bunkering services benefits from the efficient coordination across port terminals, storage and transportation systems, and bunkering operations. This achievement not only reflects the continuous optimization and standardization of methanol bunkering procedures at Shanghai Port but also demonstrates the port’s professional capabilities in green fuel storage, transportation, and bunkering. It provides robust support for elevating the green fuel bunkering service capabilities of Shanghai International Shipping Center.

The green fuel bunkering of “COSCO SHIPPING Yangpu” by “Hai Gang Zhi Yuan” delivered not just 1,000 tons of domestically produced green methanol but also symbolized the long-term stable cooperation and mutual support between SIPG Group and COSCO SHIPPING Group. It highlights the determination of Chinese port and shipping enterprises to collaborate closely in advancing toward a greener future. “Fuel autonomy, domestically built vessels, self-reliant technology, and regular operations”—the green shipping ecosystem built by Chinese solutions is paving the way for Shanghai Port’s future and writing a new chapter in the green transformation of the global shipping industry.
