The geopolitical rifts and the tariff policy of Donald Trump have caused a multitude of realignments in all sectors of the economy, including the shipping industry.

Under this prism, with the third quarter of the year approaching its end, the secondary market for bulk carriers continues to record high activity recently, according to a recent report by G. Moundreas. Last week in fact (data up to /2025) a total of 19 dry bulk carrier sales were recorded, with the sale package of three Newcastlemaxes, capacity 208,000 dwt, from 2020 Bulkers standing out. The cost of the move amounted to a total of $209 million.

The second-hand tanker market moved in the same pattern. As the same report mentions, the activity of sales for these vessels remained steady last week, with interest for larger capacity vessels being the focus, according to the report’s data. A total of 15 vessels changed hands, with the sale of four VLCCs reflecting the recent rise of the sector.

In contrast, the containership market moved in shallow waters, with only one vessel, with a carrying capacity of 13,000 TEUs, changing hands for $120 million. The sale of a 1,700 TEU feeder for $27 million completed the “activity” for these vessels last week.
