The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Peru and Guatemala will enter into force on July 1, 2026, as will the protocol associated with it, as provided by the government of the South American country.

The measure was made official through Supreme Decree No. 007-2026-MINCETUR, published this Tuesday in the Legal Norms bulletin of the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The regulation recalls that the FTA was signed on December 6, 2011 in Guatemala City, while the complementary protocol was signed on April 23, 2025 in Lima.

Both instruments were ratified through Supreme Decree No. 023-2026-RE, published on May 29 of this year.

According to the recent decree, the treaty establishes that its entry into force occurs 60 days after both parties exchange notifications confirming compliance with their internal legal procedures or on the date they mutually agree.

In this context, Peru and Guatemala made the corresponding notifications regarding the completion of said procedures and agreed that both the treaty and the protocol enter into force on July 1, 2026.

The provision also states that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will communicate to the competent entities the measures that are necessary for the proper execution of both commercial instruments.
