The international maritime law firm Campbell Johnston Clark has announced the opening of a new office in Genoa, following an agreement to hire an established team of lawyers specialized in maritime law, both English and Italian.
The firm, which already has offices in London, Newcastle, Singapore, and Miami, will be joined by a team of seven professionals based in London and Genoa, led by Enrico Vergani, founding partner in 1994 of the Garbarino Vergani firm based in Genoa, who moved in 2019 to the Bonelli Erede firm to lead the Shipping team from London. Vergani, specialized in project financing, litigation and international arbitration, as well as contractual law regarding shipbuilding and conversion, has also been appointed director of Cjc.
In addition to Vergani, the London office of Cjc will be supported by Giulia Morelli, specialized in commercial litigation and arbitration, as well as international sanctions, Marco Pirino (Italian lawyer), whose practice also focuses on aviation and customs, and Filippo Vergani (trainee). In Genoa, Cjc will be represented by Marco Mastropasqua (lawyer), who will lead the local team and boasts over 20 years of experience in the market, Luna Montervino Lisi (Italian lawyer) and Katya Barbieri (personal assistant), who will operate from the Galleria Mazzini office.
“This is a natural evolution for Cjc and a confirmation of the firm’s ambitions, both in litigation and non-contentious matters, coinciding with the conclusion of our fifteenth anniversary,” said Alistair Johnston, director of Cjc. “Having worked closely with the Italian maritime market over the years, Cjc has built a solid relationship with local shipowners, brokers, and insurers, particularly in Genoa. We hope this development will strengthen the relationships we have built over Cjc’s 15 years of operation.”
“We look forward to bringing the energy and quality of Cjc to this market and it is a matter of great pride that an English law firm is investing in Genoa to strengthen its relationship with London,” said Vergani. “There is genuine enthusiasm in our team for what we can achieve by connecting these two markets and historic centers for marine insurance, as part of a law firm whose focus on the maritime sector is so closely aligned with our expertise and experience.”
