On July 11, 2025, the National Yachting Industry Safety Development Forum, a key event for China Maritime Day, was successfully held in Boao, Hainan. Under the theme “Safety Leads the Way, Building the Future of Yachting Together,” the forum was jointly organized by the Hainan Provincial Department of Transport and the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration, with guidance from relevant national authorities. Nearly 200 representatives from government, industry, academia, and research sectors across mainland China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region gathered to discuss the development of the yachting industry.

The forum covered industry hot topics such as “Innovative Yacht Regulation Services,” “Exploration and Practice in Building Hainan’s Yachting Industry Reform and Innovation Pilot Zone,” “Strategic Reflections on China’s Yacht Economy,” and “Yacht Technology Innovation and Safety Development.” Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on institutional innovation, technological breakthroughs, management experience, industrial integration, and international cooperation, contributing insights and solutions to promote the safe and sustainable growth of China’s yachting industry.

According to forum reports, China’s yachting industry is currently experiencing robust growth, with nearly 10,000 yachts nationwide and an annual increase of over 2,000 vessels. More than 60 professional institutions have trained over 50,000 operators. Zhejiang’s catamarans are globally popular, Qingdao has made breakthroughs in smart yacht R&D, Hainan is deepening its “zero-tariff” policy, and Shanghai is enhancing its international platform functions, forming a collaborative innovation pattern among coastal provinces. Leveraging its free trade port advantages, Hainan is building a yachting industry innovation pilot zone by relaxing quotas, standardizing leasing, and establishing a full industrial chain. The province now boasts over 2,300 standardized berths, more than 1,700 registered yachts, and over 90 licensed leasing companies, demonstrating strong industrial foundations and vast development potential.

The forum pooled industry expertise, further consolidating consensus on strengthening safety management, technological innovation, and regulatory improvements. It called on relevant sectors to seize this opportunity to deepen cooperation, advance institutional innovation, refine safety supervision systems, elevate industry safety standards, and strengthen policy guidance and market cultivation. The goal is to accelerate the development of a safe, standardized, and dynamic modern yachting industry, injecting new strategic momentum into fostering new growth drivers for the marine economy and advancing China’s maritime power ambitions.
