The port of Santander consolidates its record numbers, approaching seven million tons in the year-to-date and adding 5.9 million tons of transshipped cargo in the first ten months of the year, thanks to general cargo, vehicles, and liquid bulk.

The positive results show a balance of a 20.5% increase in liquid bulk, which represents 3.2% of the total goods moved by the port. Automobiles have grown by 5.7% compared to the January-October period of 2024, reaching 276,022 units, while containers have also increased their number by 5.7%, to 134,616 TEUs, compared to the cumulative total of these ten months of the previous year, also thanks to the expansion of the terminal which, since last summer, allows for two ships to be served simultaneously.

October sets a monthly record in containerized cargo volume: 155,137 tons

Solid bulk, which represents 44.6% of the total traffic of the port of Santander, strikes a discordant note by falling 5.1%, while general cargo, the one with the highest added value, grows by 0.2% and already accounts for 52.3% of all goods moved in the Cantabrian harbor.

Díaz has emphasized the “good performance” of both vehicle and container traffic, and that the annual total stands at 7,078,388 tons “above the expected target”, thanks to the commercial efforts of the APS itself, the work of the private operators of the port community, and the development of the planned investment plan.
