With London International Shipping Week 2025 underway, VesselsValue conducted an analysis on the distribution of the ‘green’ fleet.

From the said data, it emerges that LNG carriers, at a rate of 76%, both existing and on order, operate with dual fuel. They are followed by Vehicle carriers with a rate of 23%, while it is interesting to note that, in the global orderbook, the majority of Vehicle carriers are dual fuel. Moreover, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) prioritize the transport of their electric and light vehicles with green ships. Therefore, vehicle carrier operators are called upon, driven by demand, to order dual-fuel ships to a higher degree.

Regarding the fleet’s alignment with the CII, multigas ships take the lead, with 21% of them being in category A. On the other hand, the containership fleet is distributed at a rate of 67% across categories A to C. The data reveals a sector in a transitional stage.

While market concentration remains high among a few dominant players, the rapid adoption of dual-fuel technology and the improvement of energy efficiency ratings demonstrate the industry’s commitment to achieving global decarbonization targets, concludes the VesselsValue analysis.
