The Transport Cost Index (ICT), prepared by the Argentine Federation of Cargo Transport Business Entities (FADEEAC) and audited by the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), registered an increase of 2.92% in September, following the significant increases in July (4.03%) and August (3.54%).
In this way, the third quarter of 2025 accumulates an increase of more than 10%, in a context of acceleration that began in July, after a first half of the year with more moderate increases (14% accumulated).
With this new value, the ICT reaches an accumulated increase of 26.4% so far this year (January-September 2025), while the year-on-year variation rises to 33.2%, after closing 2024 with an increase of 84.9% and having recorded in 2023 the highest increase in the last 30 years (248%).
The Index prepared by the Department of Economic Studies and Costs of FADEEAC measures 11 items that directly impact the costs of cargo transport companies throughout the country, and is a reference to a large extent for setting or adjusting sector tariffs.
The September increase is mainly due to the strong increases in Fuel and Personnel (Driving), along with significant variations in Tires, Rolling Stock and Repairs.
First, the increase in Tires (4.66%) and Rolling Stock (4.21%) stands out. Then, in a context of accelerated exchange rate slippage and growing tensions in the economy, is the Financial Cost (3.17%).
Fuel, the component with the greatest impact on the activity, exhibited an increase of 3.82% in September, accumulating an increase of 17% in the last four months. Despite this dynamic, the deferral in the application of specific taxes on fuels remains in force, extended by Decree /25 for the entire month of October.
Repairs rose 3.74%, while Personnel – Driving recorded a 2.32% increase, corresponding to the first installment of the new collective bargaining agreement CCT 40/89, with updates scheduled from September 2025 to February 2026.
With marginal variations are General Expenses (1.32%), Insurance (1.13%) and Tolls (0.21%), while Lubricant and Tax costs showed no changes.
