Progress is being registered between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz and “we expect an agreement soon,” a US official told Reuters.
“There is progress between Oman and Iran regarding the strait and we expect an agreement soon. Once the agreement to restore unobstructed commercial maritime shipping is announced, the United States will lift the blockade on Iranian ports,” the source stated.
“As always, the actions of the United States will continue to be based on performance and will be subject to Iran’s compliance with its commitments,” he added.
It should be recalled that Iran and Oman are considering requiring ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to pay fees for various maritime services.
The above with the aim of replacing the current northern and southern navigation routes with a centrally managed corridor, as revealed by a source from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the semi-official Fars agency.
