China News Service, Wuzhou, May 12 (Huang Yanmei, Lian Dongqiang) Reporters learned from the Guangxi maritime authorities on the 11th that from January to April this year, the Changzhou Ship Lock handled a total of 36,521 vessel transits, a year-on-year increase of 22.53%; the cargo throughput reached 69.6033 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 28.70%, setting a new historical high for the same period.

The “Golden Waterway” of the Xijiang River shipping trunk line is an important part of the major waterway passage for southwest China’s exports. The Changzhou Ship Lock serves as the “throat” of the Xijiang “Golden Waterway” connecting to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

To ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the Xijiang “Golden Waterway,” the Guangxi maritime authorities have proactively provided front-line services, making every effort to address navigation bottlenecks and difficulties during critical periods such as the dry season, ship lock maintenance, and the concentrated return of vessels to port, achieving phased results in ensuring smooth and unimpeded traffic.

The maritime authorities have continuously regulated navigation order, deepened cross-regional and cross-departmental coordination, scientifically improved governance efficiency, and innovated the “three divisions, two inspections, and one control” work method. This involves categorizing vessels passing through the lock, implementing graded control, and coordinating by zone; inspecting risks and hazards; strictly controlling the total number of vessels awaiting passage; implementing a “one lock, one policy” approach; guiding the optimization of lock scheduling and diversion; and improving lock passage efficiency.

Liang Jiqin, Director of the Navigation Management Division of Wuzhou Maritime Safety Administration, stated that the Xijiang trunk line is an important waterway channel for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. As a key hub, the navigational assurance of the Changzhou Ship Lock is directly related to the economic development of the river basin and the safety and stability of water transport. In the next step, the Wuzhou Maritime Safety Administration will continue to strengthen water traffic safety supervision and services, innovate and explore the “maritime credit + vessel lock passage” supervision model, promote the deep integration and application of the maritime credit system with the vessel scoring system for lock passage, and further regulate the order of vessels passing through the lock.
