ThPA S.A. and the joint venture “METKA S.A. – TEKAL S.A. (PIER 6) J/V” signed the Construction Works Contract for the expansion of Pier 6 at the Port of Thessaloniki on November 19, 2025, the company said in a press release.
The agreement, executed at the ThPA S.A. administration building by CEO Dr. Ioannis Tsaras, Joint Venture Representative and METKA ATE Vice Chairman and CEO Dinos Benroubi, and TEKAL S.A. Vice President Argyro Psaltakou, marks the beginning of what the company describes as the most significant upgrade project in the port’s history.
The contract concerns Mandatory Enhancements No. 1 (“Pier 6, Port Infrastructure Expansion”) of the Concession Agreement between the Hellenic Republic and ThPA S.A.
The project includes a 513-meter extension of Pier 6, a width of 306.5 meters, and dredging of the navigation channel and maneuvering area to enable the mooring of ULCV-type vessels. The implementation period is 40 months with a budget of 195.6 million euro.
The investment is expected to strengthen the port’s infrastructure and have a socio-economic impact from the initial construction phase. Upon completion, the Port of Thessaloniki is planned to simultaneously serve more container vessels and accommodate Ultra Large Container Vessels of up to 24,000 TEU, described as a unique capability for Northern Greece. Total capacity of the Container Terminal is projected to increase from 650,000 TEU to 1,500,000 TEU.
The financing will come from its existing capital and banking loans, the terms of which will be finalized based on its current cash position and the 2025 growth pace.
