Tongling Major Water Transport Project Boosts Golden Waterway Quality and Efficiency

Must read

It was learned recently from the Tongling Municipal Transportation Bureau that since the beginning of this year, Tongling City has closely focused on building a higher-quality golden waterway for the Tongling section of the Yangtze River, planning and constructing 22 water transport projects with a total investment of approximately 8.758 billion yuan. The implementation of this series of projects continues to enhance water transport capacity and promote high-quality regional economic development.

It is reported that in 2024, three 10,000-ton-class berths in the Henggang Port Area were completed and put into operation, and the shore slope renovation project of the Ferry Terminal was completed on schedule. Among them, the Xingang Terminal renovation and expansion project built two 10,000-ton-class general-purpose berths with an annual throughput capacity of 4.5 million tons; the Jincheng Terminal upgrade project upgraded a 3,000-ton-class berth to a 10,000-ton-class berth with an annual throughput capacity of 1.3 million tons. Both projects were selected as major projects in the provincial “14th Five-Year Plan for Water Transport” and have become models for the renovation of old terminals.

Meanwhile, the Limaoshan Operation Area built a public 3,000-ton-class liquid chemical terminal with an annual throughput capacity of 1.12 million tons, effectively filling the gap in Tongling City’s handling capacity for Class A B liquid chemicals. The Anhui Port Logistics Jinyuan Terminal renovation and expansion project newly built two 3,000-ton-class liquid chemical berths with an annual throughput capacity of 1.99 million tons. This project primarily serves the outbound shipment of by-product sulfuric acid from the nonferrous green copper-based new materials project, greatly alleviating the insufficient transport capacity of sulfuric acid terminals in Tongling City. Efforts are being made to complete the final acceptance inspections for both projects before the end of October this year. After being put into operation, they will promote the shift in Tongling City’s liquid chemical transport structure from road to water transport.

Tongling City also plans to start construction on two projects within the year. The second phase of the Xicheng Port Project plans to build four 10,000-ton-class general-purpose berths with an annual designed throughput capacity of 6 million tons. Preliminary work such as the project’s preliminary design, construction drawing review, and flood impact assessment has been basically completed. The Public Grain Terminal Project in the Yongfeng Operation Area of Yongfeng Port Area plans to build one 10,000-ton-class general-purpose berth with an annual designed throughput capacity of 1.6 million tons. The deep-water shoreline for the project has been approved by the Ministry of Transport, and preliminary work such as the initial design and construction drawing review has been completed.

While advancing existing projects, Tongling City is also actively planning a number of water transport projects. The Zongyang Nanfang Building Materials Zhanwang Comprehensive Terminal Project plans to build three new 10,000-ton-class general-purpose berths with an annual designed throughput capacity of 14 million tons. The project primarily relies on the opening of the Caizi Lake Line of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe River Water Diversion Project, focusing on developing “water-water intermodal transport” with the goal of building the Zongyang Hub Port to serve the local economic and social development of Zongyang. The application for the use of the port shoreline for this project has been submitted to the Provincial Department of Transportation, with efforts to obtain approval within the year. The second-phase terminal project for the State Energy Tongling Power Plant in the Yongfeng Port Area plans to build two 10,000-ton-class bulk cargo berths with an annual designed throughput capacity of 4.68 million tons. Upon completion, the project will stabilize the coal supply chain for the second phase of the State Energy Tongling Power Plant, ensuring continuous and stable power production. Currently, the application for the use of the port shoreline for the project has been submitted to the Provincial Department of Transportation. Preliminary work for the first phase of the Jiangbei Port Area Rail-Water Intermodal Transport Project is also actively advancing, striving for an early start. (Reporter Chen Yanfei)
