TRIESTE – New leadership for Trieste Terminal Passeggeri S.p.A.: the ordinary shareholders’ meeting has appointed Marco Consalvo, president of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, as the new president of the company that manages the Maritime Station and services dedicated to passenger traffic in the port of Trieste.

The company, 40% owned by the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority and 60% by Trieste Adriatic Maritime Initiatives (TAMI) – which is in turn controlled by MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises (44.37% each) and by Assicurazioni Generali (11.26%) – has renewed its board of directors, confirming Franco Mariani in the role of chief executive officer, with a view to management continuity.

In addition to President Consalvo, the new Board of Directors includes: Franco Mariani, confirmed as CEO to guarantee the company’s operational continuity; also Luigi Merlo, Roberto Ferrarini and Guido Bortoluzzi. The meeting also appointed Alberto Grimaldi as general manager.

During the meeting, the financial statements as of December 31, 2025 were approved, showing a net profit of 3.2 million euros on total revenues of approximately 11.1 million. In the same year, Trieste Terminal Passeggeri handled 455,469 passengers and 131 ship calls, confirming its economic solidity despite a decline in volumes and maintaining the presence of the main international cruise companies.

For 2026, approximately 130 calls are expected, with the participation of the main operators in the sector, including Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Holland America Line, TUI Cruises, Marella UK and Royal Caribbean International. Activities will include both home port operations and transit calls. The schedule will be characterized mainly by medium-sized and luxury-class ships: given a stable number of landings, however, a slight decrease in total passengers is expected precisely due to the presence of smaller units.

The outlook for 2027, on the other hand, appears to be growing, with approximately 136 scheduled calls, the return of larger ships and a consequent increase in attendance.

Consalvo wished to thank the outgoing board and President Gianluca Madriz for the work done, emphasizing that: “The cruise sector represents a significant segment for the port of Trieste and for the local economy and today requires an even more structured management between planning, services and flows. The objective is to ensure a clear direction and a unified vision on the evolution of passenger traffic, accompanying the sector towards increasingly sustainable development, integrated with the urban context and coordinated with the dynamics of other Adriatic ports”.

In parallel, the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority has already planned a series of infrastructural interventions, including the extraordinary maintenance of the Molo Bersaglieri, worth 3 million euros, and the electrification project, amounting to approximately 11 million euros, with completion expected by next June.
