United Kingdom: ABP calls for public consultation on onshore wind energy proposal at Port of Immingham

Must read

Associated British Ports (ABP) has called for a public consultation, as part of its plans to install onshore wind turbines at the Port of Immingham.

Initiatives are being developed to place up to two structures in Immingham, which would add to the other two that were submitted for planning in March 2024, meaning a total of four turbines in the complex if all are approved and built.

The units would help control the cost of electricity and directly decarbonize the port. They will also provide a basis for industrial growth.

ABP explained that it supports the Government’s ambitions to achieve net zero emissions, which is why it launched its own £2 billion plan for Energy Transition growth and Net Zero 2040. Called “Ready for Tomorrow”, it seeks to face the challenges and seize the opportunities.

In the same vein, the entity has already reduced its CO2 emissions by more than 35% since 2014 and invested more than £55 million in sustainability measures, which include the UK’s largest commercial rooftop solar energy system at the Port of Hull, electric vehicles and cranes, and a new fleet of more fuel-efficient vessels.
