Wind turbine OEM Vestas says the prototype nacelle for its next-generation offshore wind turbine, the V236-15.0 MW has been completed and is ready for testing
The prototype nacelle was completed at the company’s factory in Lindø, Denmark.
In addition to mechanical testing, the turbine’s control software will shortly undergo testing.
The test programme will end with the physical rotation of the turbine drive train before the nacelle is shipped to the Østerild test site for installation. Installation of the prototype turbine will take place later in 2022. It is due to enter into operation in the fourth quarter of the year.
The prototype nacelle is the first manifestation of Vestas’ modular nacelle design. The same concept has also been applied to Vestas’ latest EnVentus onshore turbines, the V162-7.2 MW and V172-7.2 MW.
The V236-15.0MW offshore wind turbine is capable of producing up to /year depending on site-specific conditions – enough energy to power more than 20,000 households.
