The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) agreed to update its environmental and energy policy to align it with its Strategic Plan 2035 and the Net Zero Plan for promoting decarbonisation. The aim is for the strategy to serve as a fundamental instrument for the articulation of global, more sustainable and efficient logistics chains.
In this line, the APV commits to maintaining an environmental and energy management system that, in addition to integrating sustainable management responsibilities into all components of its organisation, tends to extend this ethical commitment to all companies established in the public domain it manages and makes clients, suppliers, and other companies in the sector participants in it.
Thus, in addition to promoting decarbonisation to tackle climate change, supporting the energy transition, promoting the circular economy and fostering the protection of biodiversity; it commits to periodically analysing and evaluating the organisation’s activities, products and services that may interact with the environment, in order to identify and manage associated environmental risks.
The prevention and minimisation of impacts is another objective of this new environmental policy, together with the training and information of port personnel. Valenciaport will also evaluate the impact of the activities of the port facilities by calculating the carbon footprint and will encourage the active involvement of all agents in the energy transition of the port system.
In this line of promoting decarbonisation, the Board of Directors also approved the delegation to the president of the necessary procedures to process the tender procedure for the execution of the construction works of a new substation, which will have a budget of USD 17 million, financed with the support of the European Commission through the CEF Mechanism (Connecting Europe Facility).
This new infrastructure will allow doubling the energy capacity of the port facility and represents a decisive step towards maximum operational reliability and environmental sustainability.
The Board of Directors also approved an agreement with the Valencia City Council for the implementation of a development and training centre for nautical-sports activities in La Marina in the current space of the Sailing School.
On the other hand, it has selected, in view of the proposal made by the Qualification Board of the “Public tender for the granting of an administrative concession for the occupation of port public domain for the implementation of a business centre for technology and innovation aimed at entrepreneurship, offices, training and events in the EFO 16 Shed of the Marina of Valencia”, the offer presented by the company Valencia Innovation District.
The Board also authorised the non-substantial modification of the administrative concession owned by Marina Port Valencia, consisting of the expansion of the surface area by 6,200 square metres of land in the area of the South Marina road adjacent to the commercial port.
In another order, the substantial modification of the administrative concession for the occupation of port public domain owned by Bersolaz Spain, in the Port of Sagunto, was permitted. It allows expanding the water surface by 39,785 square metres, to execute the second phase of the modernisation, relocation and expansion project of the aquaculture facilities intended for the cultivation of gilthead seabream, European seabass and meagre.
