In active response to the national “Dual Carbon” goals and the strategic requirements for the green transformation of the port and shipping industry, VENEX Company Limited (“VENEX”), a joint venture established by The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (“Towngas”) and Foran Energy Group Co., Ltd. (“Foran Energy”), recently signed the “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Green Fuel Supply” with Veolia China and SPG Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Together, they will develop a comprehensive green methanol supply and distribution network and jointly build a full-chain green fuel ecosystem from production to bunkering.
Witnessed by Wong Wai Yee, Managing Director of Towngas and Chairman of VENEX; Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia; and Gu Jinshan, President of the China Ports & Harbours Association (middle, back row), the “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Green Fuel Supply” was signed by Sam Shum, Operations President – Green Gas & Chemicals of Towngas and CEO of VENEX (front row, right); Gu Lihua, CEO of Veolia China (front row, left); and Luo Wenbin, Chairman and General Manager of SPG Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (front row, middle).
According to the agreement, the three parties will leverage VENEX’s expertise in green methanol production and operation, Veolia’s expertise in local carbon reduction energy solutions and its global decarbonization experience, as well as SPG’s leading advantages in port energy infrastructure to jointly develop a comprehensive green methanol supply and distribution network, building an “end-to-end” green fuel supply ecosystem from production to marine bunkering.
Through the synergistic development of the green methanol industry chain, this cooperation will provide sustainable fuel solutions for port and shipping enterprises, gradually reduce the industry’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels, promote the in-depth transformation of the port and shipping industry towards low-carbon development, and facilitate the formation of a green and low-carbon industrial ecosystem in the transportation sector.
Wong Wai Yee, Managing Director of Towngas and Chairman of VENEX, stated: “Leveraging its profound professional expertise in green methanol production technology and operational management, VENEX will deeply integrate into the ecosystem construction of the green fuel industry chain. We will work hand in hand with Veolia and SPG Energy to systematically advance the development of the green methanol supply chain and sales service network, contributing our professional strength to the transformation and upgrading of the port and shipping industry towards green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.”
Estelle Brachlianoff, Chief Executive Officer of Veolia, said: “Veolia is pleased to support the Port of Shanghai in becoming a global leader in sustainable green fuel supply with our advanced technology and mature experience, contributing to the decarbonization process of the port and shipping industry. This cooperation fully aligns with the objectives of Veolia’s GreenUp strategy, which focuses on developing local energy resources and providing cutting-edge environmental solutions.”
Yang Zhiyong, Vice President of SPG, pointed out: “As an industry leader in China’s port energy infrastructure, SPG Energy will take this strategic cooperation as a significant opportunity. We will join hands with Veolia and VENEX to build a green fuel supply system covering the entire industry chain, committed to establishing the Port of Shanghai as a benchmark demonstration base for green fuel application, providing solid support for China’s port and shipping industry to achieve the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals.”
Gu Jinshan, President of the China Ports & Harbours Association, expressed high recognition for this cooperation, stating: “Promoting the application of clean fuels like green methanol is a key path to achieving the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals in the port and shipping industry. This tripartite cooperation, by integrating global environmental resources with the advantages of local port infrastructure, will significantly enhance the green fuel supply guarantee capability of the Port of Shanghai. It also provides a replicable and scalable practical example for the low-carbon transformation of the port and shipping industry in China and globally.”
