Belgian news outlets have reported a fire on board a CLDN car carrier in the port of Zeebrugge, part of Belgium’s Antwerp-Bruges port ecosystem.

VRT reported that the fire broke out on the vessel at around 15:00 local time on 16 April. The vessel was reported to have more than 100 electric vehicles on board.

No injuries have been reported, and the vessel’s crew have been evacuated. The captain reportedly remained on board to monitor the vessel and assist in the port’s emergency response to the incident, which included mobilisation of three tugboats to support the response efforts.

The fire reportedly has been brought under control through the tugs’ fire-fighting efforts and the use of Delphine’s on board CO2 suppression fire-fighting systems, and Belgian officials reportedly said that port operations in Zeebrugge continued without major disruption.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident. Riviera has contacted the vessel owner by phone and email and not yet received a response.
