Repost: The Vietnam Coast Guard on Wednesday (21 December) said it has seized an oil tanker transporting about 15 tonnes of unknown origin fuel oil.

The Coast Guard Region 1 Command discovered the ship at Hai Phong-Thai Binh on 21 December at 3.05pm.

The vessel displayed numerous suspicious signs, prompting the coast guard to board the ship for inspection.

An initial investigation found the ship, which had two members on board, to be transporting about 15,000 kg of fuel oil with no invoices and documents proving its legal origin.

According to the captain, the fuel oil was purchased in the area it was found while on the way to Hai Phong.

As such, the coast guard made a record of administrative violations, temporarily seized the oil tanker and guided the vessel to the port of Cat Hai district in Hai Phong for further investigations and handling in accordance with the law.
