New consultations on the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection are scheduled for next week, following yesterday’s meeting of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, with the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, Mr. Giorgos Papanastasiou.
Specifically, a teleconference is scheduled with the regulatory authorities of the two countries and the implementing body (IPTO – Independent Power Transmission Operator) with the participation of the EU Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen. The aim of the discussions is to resolve the outstanding technical, institutional and financial issues, some of which date back to the period before IPTO’s entry, so that the project can proceed to the next phase.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN) regarding the meeting of the two ministers, “During the constructive meeting that took place in an excellent atmosphere, the next steps for the project were decided in the direction recently set by the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides”.
