With a global fleet of more than 100 cruise ships across its 10 brands, Carnival Corp faces a unique set of challenges when it comes to planning its newbuilds — which must last 30 years or more — and making sure its existing fleet is fully compliant with industry regulations.
In conversation Riviera Maritime Media’s executive editor and head of business relations Edwin Lampert, Carnival Corp director of marine technology Marcel Goncalves discusses why the cruise line thinks scrubbers are the right solution for its existing fleet and some of the challenges the shipowner had to overcome as an early adopter of exhaust gas cleaning system technology.
