Three MOL vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz and exited the Persian Gulf last April without paying transit fees, according to a company update on Friday, May 8.

A MOL spokesperson, speaking to Reuters, emphasized that the company, citing the principle of freedom of navigation under international law, will not pay future transit fees for the Strait of Hormuz either. Asked how the ships managed to pass through the Strait, MOL, which still has several vessels in the Gulf, attributed the success to the efforts of the relevant countries and involved parties. “We will continue to prioritize the safety of our crew, vessels, and cargo above all else,” the spokesperson added.
