Recently, a batch of containers fully loaded with silicon dioxide departed from Wuxi West Station, transferred via sea transport at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port, and will proceed directly to Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia. Following the successful launch of the “Double Fast” freight train service from Wuxi West to South America, the Wuxi West Station Logistics Park has once again intensified its efforts, newly establishing the “Wuxi West – Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port – Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia” sea-rail intermodal “Double Fast” route, further densifying the international logistics network from Wuxi to ASEAN.

The core of the “Double Fast” logistics model is the efficient coordination of the “Sea-Rail Intermodal Premium Express Line + International Shipping Fast Route,” enabling goods to achieve “fast turnover, less delay” in both land and sea transport stages. Among these, the front-end sea-rail intermodal transport relies on the advantages of large railway transport capacity, minimal impact from natural conditions, and strong connectivity, enabling seamless “door-to-port” integration. The back-end shipping fast route utilizes “point-to-point” direct shipping resources, significantly compressing sea transport time. The two complement each other, jointly building a rapid logistics channel characterized by “unblocked land transport and non-detoured sea transport.” Currently, the first “Wuxi West – Shanghai Waigaoqiao – Guayaquil Port” sea-rail intermodal service operated by Wuxi Freight Train Company had dispatched 10 trips by the end of September, achieving stable monthly frequency of 3 trips, cumulatively transporting approximately 900 TEUs of goods.

Sihanoukville Port in Cambodia, as an important hub port in the ASEAN region, is a core logistics node connecting Cambodia itself and the surrounding eastern areas of Laos and Thailand. The launch of this “Wuxi West – Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port – Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia” sea-rail intermodal “Double Fast” route is precisely the precise implementation of the “Double Fast” model under the guidance and support of the Shanghai Railway Logistics Center and Shanghai Port Sea-Rail Intermodal Transport Co., Ltd. Compared to traditional transport routes, this new “Double Fast” logistics model can shorten transport time by 2-3 days and reduce logistics costs by 10%. The “Wuxi West – Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port” sea-rail intermodal freight train service has a mature operational foundation. This key corridor consistently leverages “fast transit time and stable schedule” as its core advantages, having achieved normalized “daily service” operations, providing reliable “timed arrival, zero delay” guarantee for front-end cargo collection and distribution. This stable schedule rhythm resolves the logistics concerns of Wuxi’s foreign trade enterprises. The responsible person of the shipping enterprise, Quecheng Silicon Chemical Co., Ltd., explained that the characteristics of “fast transit time and stable schedule” of the sea-rail intermodal service at their doorstep have driven the reform of the enterprise’s industrial chain. The enterprise can precisely reverse-schedule production plans based on the departure times of the “daily service,” effectively avoiding issues such as product storage backlog and production capacity failing to meet delivery deadlines caused by insufficient logistics frequency and unstable transit times. This transforms the enterprise from a passive state of “people waiting for goods, goods waiting for transport” to an active operation of “transport following production, production following demand.”

The opening of this new route is another important measure by Wuxi Freight Train Company to actively respond to the “Belt and Road” Initiative and serve economic and trade exchanges between Wuxi and ASEAN. While further deepening the trade partnership between Wuxi and ASEAN countries, it helps deeply integrate the Yangtze River Delta industrial chain with the ASEAN supply chain, establishing an efficient and convenient “steel bridge” for China-Cambodia economic and trade cooperation and for “Wuxi manufacturing to deeply cultivate Southeast Asia.”

In recent years, Wuxi’s sea-rail intermodal freight trains have continuously built stable and efficient logistics channels, becoming a “stabilizer” for Wuxi’s foreign trade enterprises to break through against the trend. According to statistics, from January to September this year, the sea-rail intermodal freight trains cumulatively operated 306 trips, dispatching 21,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 115%, with the total value of transported goods reaching 6 billion yuan.

Currently, Wuxi’s sea-rail intermodal transport has preliminarily achieved two full coverages. First, it has achieved full coverage of the international logistics channel network. The sea-rail intermodal freight trains have reached over 70 countries in Asia, South America, Europe, and North America, connecting all of Wuxi’s trading countries and regions, truly achieving “Wuxi goods shipped by Wuxi means” to destinations worldwide. Second, it has achieved full coverage of key industry service targets. Closely aligned with Wuxi’s “465” modern industrial system, it has served over 300 manufacturing enterprises, covering multiple industrial clusters including high-end equipment, new energy, automobiles and parts, new materials, modern light industry, integrated circuits, and high-end textiles and apparel. This both empowers industrial chain upgrading and promotes foreign trade growth.
