Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (Yang Ming), one of the ten largest container lines in the world, has launched two ultra-large container vessels.
The 14,000 TEU megaships, named YM Wonderland and YM Wisdom, were built for Yang Ming by Imabari Shipbuilding Co, based in Japan.
Yang Ming Chairman Bronson Hsieh, and National Ocean Taiwan University President Chang Ching Fong, were invited to a naming ceremony at the Imabari Saijo Shipyard on December 21, 2019.

According to a statement, YM Wonderland and YM Wisdom are the second and the third of five 14,000 TEU vessels that Yang Ming has chartered from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, joining the YM Wellbeing that was delivered in October 2018.
The ships are designed with a nominal capacity of 14,220 TEU and are equipped with 1,000 reefer plugs.
Yang Ming has called for the addition of ten 2,800 TEU vessels and the charter of ten 11,000 TEU new-built ships in 2019, which is expected to strengthen the carrier’s position within the container shipping market.

A further statement from the company read: “Yang Ming has strategically striven to make it more competitive in response to the challenge posted by the fast changing shipping market.
“The addition of these new ships will enable Yang Ming to provide customers with more and better services.”
YM Wonderland and YM Wisdom will be delivered to Yang Ming in February 2019 and deployed to THE Alliance Asia-Europe service, widening Yang Ming’s network and boosting competitiveness.
