Recently, Yang’er (Shanghai) Ship Technology Co., Ltd. announced exciting news—its core products, marine Ethernet cables and marine optical fiber cables, have successfully passed the authoritative certification of Lloyd’s Register (LR) and officially obtained the LR Type Approval Certificate! Lloyd’s Register was founded in 1760 and is the world’s first marine classification society. For over 260 years since its establishment, it has been committed to the maritime industry, continuously improving ship safety performance and promoting the sustainable development of the marine economy.
This breakthrough achievement of our company’s special cables obtaining LR approval signifies that our products have reached international top standards in technical R&D, quality control, and other aspects, possessing core competitiveness in the global marine equipment field, providing more reliable communication solutions for the global shipping industry.
Efficient Transmission: Building a Maritime Communication “High-Speed Channel”
For this certification, our marine Ethernet cables cover multi-scenario usage requirements from CAT5E to CAT7A. For different external environments, three shielding types have been launched: F/UTP (Foil Overall Shield), SF/UTP (Tinned Copper Braid + Foil Overall Shield), and S/FTP (Tinned Copper Overall Shield + Foil Individual Shield), safeguarding stable data transmission. The conductor uses high-purity oxygen-free copper, undergoes precision wire drawing and insulation extrusion processes, with strict control of conductor concentricity, ensuring the cable’s transmission performance meets IEC 61156-5 requirements.
The optical cables use low-loss fiber cores, meeting the real-time interaction needs of massive data for systems such as ship navigation, satellite communication, and IoT sensors, immune to electromagnetic interference, and can provide multi-scenario optical communication solutions from single-mode to multi-mode, and from indoor to outdoor.
Stringent Quality Control: Full-Chain Closed-Loop Management, Upholding the Bottom Line of Maritime Safety
To ensure every meter of cable can adapt to the extreme working conditions and long-term reliability requirements of ships and offshore engineering, our company uses the ISO9001:2015 quality management system as a framework, deeply integrates the special technical specifications of the LR classification society, and establishes a full-chain quality control system covering “raw materials – production – testing – factory dispatch,” achieving dual assurance of “system compliance + classification society standards.” We strictly screen qualified material suppliers and implement an “incoming inspection + system traceability” mechanism for key raw materials such as copper materials, optical fibers, insulating materials, and sheathing materials from each batch entering the factory. Substandard raw materials are rejected, and the processing results are recorded according to the “Nonconforming Product Control” procedure, eliminating quality risks from the source.
Core Advantage: Strengthening Maritime Communication Defenses with Technological Innovation
In offshore engineering scenarios, communication cables like Ethernet cables and optical cables often face threats such as crude oil leaks and mud erosion. After continuous optimization of materials and processes, our special Ethernet and optical cable products meet or even exceed the NEK 606 standard for cables used in marine engineering. During the certification process, we simulated high-intensity mud environments in third-party laboratories. Whether subjected to 7 days of 100-degree oil-based erosion or 56 days of immersion in a high-concentration calcium bromide solution, the product’s mechanical performance remained within the standard range. Characteristic values such as signal transmission stability and attenuation remained at pre-test levels, while the sheath showed no obvious cracking, and the volume change rate was also within the control range.
Addressing the special requirements of ships’ enclosed spaces where fires can spread easily and key equipment requires continuous power supply and communication, our marine Ethernet cables and optical cables have achieved triple breakthroughs in “material-structure-performance” for flame retardancy and fire resistance safety design, fully complying with stringent standards such as LR certification and IEC 60332-1-2, IEC 60332-3-22, IEC 60331-2, etc., ensuring core systems do not fail and personnel safety is guaranteed in fire scenarios. The cable sheath and insulation layer both use low-smoke zero-halogen flame-retardant polyolefin materials, which can effectively inhibit flame spread; simultaneously, the smoke light transmittance is greater than 60%, and toxic gas release is ≤0.5%, avoiding secondary injuries from smoke suffocation and toxic gas poisoning in enclosed ship spaces, buying crucial time for crew escape and firefighting rescue. Structurally, high-purity mica tape is used to wrap the conductor as a core insulation barrier. Even if the outer sheath carbonizes at high temperatures, the mica tape can maintain its insulation performance, preventing conductor short circuits. They can effectively withstand 830°C flames for 120 minutes under conditions involving impact and water spray, meeting the requirements for safe return to port.
Leveraging innovative technology and material processes, our marine Ethernet cables and optical cables can operate stably within a temperature range of -40°C to 70°C, breaking through the performance limitations of traditional Ethernet and optical cables. The products passed the IEC 60794-1-21 mechanical performance test, performing excellently in over 10 stringent assessments including low-temperature tension, impact, and bending; the optical cable attenuation change throughout the test was less than 0.2dB; the Ethernet cable attenuation, return loss, and characteristic impedance change rates were all within the limits specified by IEC 61156-1. Whether for scientific research communication in icy polar regions or for offshore platforms with high temperatures and high salinity, our products can ensure “zero interruption” of communication with reliable performance, making them a high-quality choice for communication construction in extreme temperature environments.
Against the backdrop of the global shipping industry’s transformation towards intelligence and greening, stable and efficient communication systems have become key supports for ship safety navigation and operational efficiency improvement. Our LR-certified marine Ethernet cables and optical cables can be widely used in various ship types such as bulk carriers, container ships, tankers, luxury cruise ships, and special vessels, providing seamlessly adapted transmission guarantees for ship navigation systems, Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), video surveillance systems, satellite communication equipment, etc.
In the future, our company will intensify the pace of classification society certification for special cables, accelerate integration into the construction of global ship and offshore communication networks, and continuously promote the technological upgrade of marine communication cables, providing safer and more reliable solutions for the maritime communication field.
