Yangzijiang Mitsui delivers fifth MR tanker to Singapore shipowner

On November 14, the fifth new-generation environmentally friendly 50,000-deadweight-ton MR-type product tanker, the “JAL KAVERI,” built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding for Singaporean shipowner JALDHI, was delivered and departed from the shipyard, commencing its maiden voyage.

The “JAL KAVERI” has an overall length of 183.00 meters, a breadth of 32.30 meters, a depth of 19.10 meters, and a design draft of 11.00 meters. The vessel’s steel cutting for the batch began in December 2024, and it successfully completed its sea trials in October 2025, with all test data surpassing the research and development targets.

On November 11, a grand naming ceremony for the vessel was held by Yangzi-Mitsui. Attendees included the godmother Ms. Puja Bothra, the naming sponsor Mr. Anant Chand Bothra, JALDHI Managing Director Mr. VC Bothra, Lloyd’s Register Foreign Shipowner Team Manager Mr. Dimitrios Chalas, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Deputy General Manager and Yangzi-Mitsui General Manager Mr. Song Shuming, as well as representatives from various partners and employees.

Godmother Ms. Puja Bothra named the vessel “JAL KAVERI,” after which naming sponsor Mr. Anant Chand Bothra performed the rope-cutting and champagne-smashing ceremony. Firecrackers and fireworks were set off, and the ship’s whistle sounded in unison. The ceremony conveyed wishes for the safe voyages of the new vessel and its crew, bringing good fortune and wealth to the shipowner, and earning honor for Lloyd’s Register and Yangzi-Mitsui.

On the morning of November 11, representatives from both parties signed the delivery documents for the “JAL KAVERI.
