YEMEN’S Houthi rebels recently struck a ship in the Red Sea in a missile attack, reports the Associated Press.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre, the incident occurred off the coast of Mokha, Yemen.

The vessel, identified as the Cyclades, a Malta-flagged bulk carrier owned by Greece, which sustained damage from the attack.

Fortunately, the crew remained unharmed and steered the ship toward its next destination.

The UKMTO issued a cautionary advisory to ships navigating the area in light of the attack.

Additionally, the US military’s Central Command reported intercepting a drone headed towards the USS Philippine Sea and USS Laboon, indicating a heightened security threat in the region.

Houthi spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the attack on the Cyclades and the attempted targeting of the US warships.

Meanwhile, the Italian Defence Ministry disclosed that its frigate Virgino Fasan intercepted a Houthi drone near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait earlier that day.

Despite these incidents, the Houthis have not ceased their attacks on maritime traffic, purportedly in response to ongoing conflicts in the region.

The frequency of such assaults has drawn concern from international observers, impacting shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
