More than 25% more cruise passengers have passed through the ports of Las Palmas in the first half of 2025. A total of 1,187,066 cruise passengers, maintaining the upward trend of recent months as noted by the President of the Port Authority, Beatriz Calzada. “During this first half of the year, the cruise ships that have called at our ports have made a total of 437 stops, 181 in Gran Canaria, 144 in Lanzarote, and 112 in Fuerteventura. These passengers are already enjoying the facilities of the new terminals on the latter two islands, and by the end of the year, they will also do so on the island of Gran Canaria, where our concessionaire, Global Ports, is building the largest cruise terminal in Europe,” stated Beatriz Calzada.

For 2025, an increase in cruise passengers from the United States and Canada is observed, along with the inclusion of the port of Las Palmas as a stop on repositioning voyages covering the Caribbean-Mediterranean route and vice versa. According to data provided by CLIA, the International Cruise Lines Association of Spain for 2023, the cruise sector contributed 6.45 billion euros to the Spanish economy, with its contribution to GDP reaching 3 billion euros. “Undoubtedly, these are very positive figures for an industry that generates wealth and opportunities across the board, benefiting a wide range of businesses and professionals, such as the food sector, tour guides, or travel agencies,” pointed out Beatriz Calzada, President of Las Palmas.
