China News Service, Dalian, June 18 (Reporter Yang Yi) The naming ceremony for the 175,000 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Hai Chuang”, built by Dalian Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Trading for China Merchants Energy Shipping, was held in Dalian on the 18th.

The “Hai Chuang” was independently developed and designed by Dalian Shipbuilding. The vessel has a total length of 295 meters, a molded breadth of 46.4 meters, a molded depth of 26.2 meters, a design draft of 11.5 meters, a design service speed of 19.5 knots, and a total cargo tank capacity of 175,000 cubic meters. A single full-load transport volume can meet the usage demand of the entire city of Dalian for one and a half months. It can dock at the vast majority of large LNG terminals worldwide, possessing good port adaptability and ship-shore compatibility.

The vessel is equipped with dual-fuel main engines, dual-fuel generators, conventional fuel oil boilers, a cargo handling system, a re-liquefaction unit, and an air lubrication system. This ship type achieves comprehensive balance in economy, flexibility, and compatibility, and can dock at most large LNG terminals globally.

According to project leader Wang Bo, the cargo containment system of the “Hai Chuang” achieved excellent results with zero leakage points in sound testing, zero leakage points in single cargo tank ammonia testing, and zero leakage points in low-temperature piping and insulation during cold pipe filling. It independently completed the “fuel oil + gas” combined sea trial for the first time, simulating actual ship operating conditions to the maximum extent during the trial mode. All test items were completed with high quality in just 10 days, and the vessel’s operating status was stable.

Previously, the first two sister ships of this project, “Hai Yun” and “Hai Han”, were delivered in September 2025 and January 2026 respectively. To date, they have completed over 10 voyages, operating smoothly and efficiently. (End)
