According to shipping industry news, European shipbroker reports indicate that Chinese shipyards have recently secured multiple orders for Suezmax tankers, demonstrating continued activity in the newbuilding market, particularly in the container ship and tanker segments.

Specifically, European shipbrokers noted that renowned Greek shipowner Adam Polemis has returned to the tanker newbuilding market, placing an order for 2+2 Suezmax tankers of 163,000 DWT at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, with expected delivery in 2028.

European shipbrokers pointed out that this move is part of New Shipping, under Adam Polemis, continuing to adjust its fleet structure through a series of sale and purchase transactions.

In May this year, New Shipping sold the VLCC “New Naxos” to Thailand’s Prima Marine for $33 million. In June, the company sold another VLCC, “New Tinos,” for $37 million.

Additionally, transaction records show that the company acquired the LR2 tanker resale vessel “Hesperia Tide,” built by Zhoushan Changhong International, for $70 million.

As of now, New Shipping operates approximately 30 vessels, including tankers and dry bulk carriers. Furthermore, New Shipping has also ordered an LR2 tanker at Dalian Shipbuilding, expected to be delivered in 2026.

In short, summer is typically a slow season due to holidays. Shipbrokers highlighted that Chinese shipyards have recently secured multiple Suezmax tanker orders, underscoring the continued vibrancy of the tanker newbuilding market.

In June, Dynacom Tankers, owned by Greek shipping magnate George Prokopiou, ordered six 155,000 DWT Suezmax tankers at New Times Shipbuilding, with delivery expected in 2028.

Additionally, Hengli Heavy Industries recently announced securing an order for 2+2 LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers of 157,000 DWT from Eastern Pacific Shipping, scheduled for delivery between late 2027 and 2028.
