Wenzhou Network News Recently, the container ship “Haifeng Haikou” successfully berthed at berth No. 6 in Zhuangyuan Port Area of Wenzhou Port and began orderly loading and unloading operations, marking the official opening of two 50,000-ton special berths No. 5 and No. 6 in Zhuangyuan Port Area of Wenzhou Port, which will add an annual throughput capacity of more than 1 million TEUs to Wenzhou Port.
Berths 5 and 6 of the second phase of the Zhuangyuan Port Area of Wenzhou Port are key port projects just approved by the provincial government on September 1, which are special berths for 50,000-ton containers, and the terminal structure is designed according to the berthing of 100,000-ton container ships, with a total length of 626 meters of berth shoreline and a design water depth of -17 meters, which can meet the all-weather berthing needs of large container ships. The project started construction in March 2022, passed the delivery and acceptance on November 29, 2024, and was approved for a port operation license on December 20 of the same year.
As an important infrastructure upgrade project of Wenzhou Port, the commissioning of berths 5 and 6 in Zhuangyuan Port Area will significantly enhance the competitiveness of Wenzhou Port and the level of international shipping services, and provide solid support for Wenzhou Port to build a world-class strong port “Jinnan Wing” and a shipping center in southern Zhejiang. In the first eight months of this year, Wenzhou Port Group completed a cargo throughput of 30.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%; the container throughput was 1.045 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%, and continued to maintain a steady development momentum.
In recent years, Wenzhou Port Group has continued to promote port expansion and structural optimization, continuously improve the layout of container routes, and actively expand the coverage of route services. At present, Wenzhou Port Group has 9 berths of more than 50,000 tons, opened 18 offshore routes, and domestic trade routes can directly reach major domestic coastal ports such as Yingkou, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangzhou.
