Within the framework of the state’s plan for sustainable development and “Egypt Vision 2030,” and implementing President Sisi’s instructions to convert Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics, and transit trade, the government is ongoing implementation of a comprehensive plan for developing the transport system across the republic; including the establishment of 7 comprehensive logistic channels. These channels aim to link regions of industrial, mining, and agricultural production with seaports, whether on the Mediterranean or Red Sea, passing by dry ports and logistic regions; through road and railway networks; whether traditional or high-speed electric trains.
These channels include the Sokhna-Alex channel, which extends from Sokhna Port on the Red Sea, passing by the dry 10th Ramadan Port and logistic region, and linked by a railway network through the El-Rubeeky–10th Ramadan–Belbees line of 63.5 km in length, connecting with the industrial region in 10th Ramadan, then passing by Cairo and the 10th of October industrial city, the dry port, and the logistic region until reaching Grand Alex Port.
Moreover, ongoing implementation of the Arish-Taba channel, which starts from Arish Port on the Mediterranean and reaches Taba Port on the Gulf of Aqaba, passing by heavy industry regions in central Sinai, and serving the ongoing logistic regions being established in El-Tour, Rafah, El-Owga, El-Hasna, El-Naqab, Taba, Ras Sedr, and Beer El-Abd.
On the other hand, the Cairo-Alex channel starts from the Upper Egypt trains’ station in Bashteel and serves the dry ports in Al-Sadat and 6th October, linking with the Bashteel–Elated–Etay Elbarood–ElKabary railway line through the Kafr El Dawar–Al-Sadat junction (36 km in length) and another line from El-Manashy to 6th October (68 km in length) until reaching Grand Alex Port.
Additionally, work is ongoing on the Tanta-Mansoura-Damietta channel, which starts from the logistic region in Tanta to serve industrial and agricultural production regions in Kwesna, Tanta, Kafr El-Zayat, Mahalla, and Mansoura, linking them with Damietta Port through the Tanta–Mansoura–Damietta railway line and passing by the dry port in New Damietta.
The projects also include the Gargoob-ElSaloom channel, which starts from Gargoob Seaport on the Mediterranean and reaches El-Saloom Harbor. This port is considered the largest land port in Egypt and aims to reinforce trade exchange traffic with Libya, linked with the logistic region east of Saloom by a railway line of 223 km in length.
