The Greek shipowner has ordered engineroom, automation and cargo-handling system simulators for its training centre on an island in the Aegean Sea

Capital Group is purchasing simulators for crew training at its growing training centre on the Greek island of Chios. The Greek shipowner will use these to improve crew familiarisation with onboard automation, propulsion and cargo-control systems on tankers and LNG carriers.

Capital has contracted Kongsberg Maritime to supply its K-Sim engineroom and cargo simulators, which include K-Chief automation systems installed on Capital’s tankers and LNG gas carriers.

These simulators will enhance the general training required under IMO’s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers.

“Simulation training is a critical component of our crew development strategy,” said Capital Ship Management Chios branch captain, Ioannis Tsirigos.“The ability to train on familiar automation systems, such as K-Chief 600 and K-Chief 700, ensures our personnel gain hands-on experience, improving safety, efficiency and operational effectiveness.”
