The flags at the port of Huelva are flying at half-mast as a sign of mourning for the death at the age of 84 of José Antonio Marín Rite, who was president of the Port Authority for five and a half years, from early 2005 until late 2010. The team at the port of Huelva, led by its current president, Alberto Santana, has expressed its sorrow for the loss and conveyed its condolences and those of the entire team to his family and friends.

During his presidency, he carried out significant actions to promote intermodality, such as the works to equip the outer port with railway access to all docks, primarily in Ciudad de Palos and Muelle Sur. In the area of port-city integration, Marín Rite undertook the environmental regeneration of the left bank of the Ría del Odiel, which included cleaning the banks, planting native species, restoring sands, and constructing a pedestrian path to Punta del Sebo.
