The units must demonstrate absence of connections with the country before being able to dock
Istanbul – According to reports from Lloyd’s List, Turkey has introduced new restrictions for entry into its ports: ships must certify that they have no ties with Israel and are not transporting goods destined for or coming from that country.
Maritime agents will be required to submit the standardized Shipman2009 form, confirming that neither the shipowner nor the ship operator has relations with Israel. Industry sources explained that this document was already provided for, but until now rarely requested.
The measure, in effect from August 20, has not been formalized with an official directive from Ankara, but rather communicated verbally to the interested parties. A spokesperson for the Turkish ministry of Transport stated that there is no official announcement regarding restrictions against ships connected to Israel.
According to sources cited by Reuters, ships will also have to provide written assurances that they do not have on board explosives or military equipment destined for Israel. The crackdown follows the total suspension of commercial exchanges between Turkey and Israel, decided by Ankara in May 2024, which had already halted supplies of steel and cement.
