Ten-year agreement
The Austrian rail freight company Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has signed a ten-year agreement for the use of the Sommacampagna-Sona (Verona) intermodal terminal, managed by RBN Logistic, which occupies an area of approximately 110 thousand square meters and is equipped with two entrance and exit tracks and four tracks, each 600 meters long, for the unloading and loading of freight trains. With a significant expansion of the terminal’s capacity expected by 2028, and with additional regular rail connections planned for next year, RCG specified that the goal of the strategic cooperation is to transform the Sona site into an intermodal hub for freight transport to and from Southern and Northern Europe, from which up to 30 rail connections per week can already depart.
Rail Cargo Group already operates services with the Sona terminal, connecting it with Vienna as part of a twice-weekly service, with Hannover with four weekly departures in both directions, and with Wuppertal with eight weekly departures in both directions. RCG’s goal is to become one of the main partners of the Verona terminal by further developing its business there.
