Marcos Gutiérrez, president of the Consorcio Portuario Regional Mar del Plata, highlighted that “for months we have been working intensively with the provincial government and the logistics, operations, and security team of the Consorcio Portuario to reach this day, which represents the beginning of a stage of new possibilities for our port, the city, and the neighbors and workers.”

The cargo, composed of products manufactured by the multinational firm at the plant it set up in the Parque Industrial de Mar del Plata, departs this Thursday, September 11th, on the container ship Artemis of the French shipping line CMA CGM, which will call at Montevideo, Uruguay, and will have its final destination the Porto de Itajaí, in Brazil.

The dealings between the Consorcio Portuario and Lamb Weston intensified during these last months with logistical adjustments to be able to realize this challenge, which required a plan of works and improvements to guarantee achieving this objective.

In this sense, a new maintenance dredging was initiated, which is being carried out with the financial support of the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires and, at the same time, progress is being made with the projection of a modern port terminal equipped with high international standard infrastructure for the future.

The logistical needs by land for this company with its production plant in the Parque Industrial were also considered. From the government of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Circunvalación project was executed, which on the southern front of the district allows linking Ruta 88 with the interbalnearia 11, meaning that the goods to be shipped by sea arrive at the port without passing through the urban area of the city.

“We are proud that we can finally realize the first export operation of Lamb Weston and begin this new challenge,” said Gutiérrez and detailed that “great efforts are being made for the modernization of the port infrastructure.”

“We project a dynamic port that provides answers for this very complex moment and can guarantee optimal conditions of safety and effectiveness in every aspect of port operations,” stated the head of the port.

It is estimated that starting this month, a monthly load of 120 containers of pre-cooked potatoes manufactured at the brand new Lamb Weston production plant will be dispatched from the local port. To the weekly call that the company CMA CGM has had since the beginning of August, other bi-weekly ones from Maersk are added.
