China has updated its maritime regulations in response to US fees on Chinese-built, owned, or operated vessels set to begin on October 14. The new rules enable Beijing to impose countermeasures, such as special port fees, entry bans, or data restrictions, on foreign carriers targeting Chinese operators. They also require international shipping companies to submit detailed business information or face fines and possible suspension. While COSCO and OOCL acknowledge the impacts, global carriers like Maersk and MSC are adjusting their deployments as tensions escalate in the US–China maritime trade dispute.
